A Pod of Their Own, Episode 59: A conversation with Jen Ramos

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we welcome Jen Ramos to the show and begin by discussing the Mets’ COVID situation and how that impacts the team the rest of the way. Next, we talk about Thom Brennaman using a homophobic slur on air and Jen Ramos discusses how baseball can do a much better job of being more inclusive and welcoming to the LGBTQ community. They gave the example of Kobe Bryant being suspended for using the same slur so Brennaman claiming ignorance of its meaning rang hollow. They also talked about minor leaguer Tyler Dunnington who sadly quit baseball after overhearing teammates say gays should be killed and how baseball is losing talented people because they feel unwelcome in the sport.
