A Pod of Their Own, Episode 273: Upgraded from sell to don’t buy
Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by discussing the Mets’ play in May, which has been a bit better, but still not good enough. But as we were recording the episode, the news broke that the Mets are shaking things up by promoting AJ Ewing, so we also talked about that pleasant surprise, which saved this from being an even bleaker episode. In the second half of the show, we discuss the extramural activities of a certain former Mets pitcher with a receding hairline, the dismissal of Gabe Alvarez due to harassment allegations, and the glossing over of Bobby Cox’s domestic abuse when discussing his legacy. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Home Run Applesauce podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by talking about how the Mets have improved, but probably not enough to salvage the season. We also talk about the latest rash of injuries and the vote of confidence Carlos Mendoza received from David Stearns. Next, we pay tribute to legendary Yankees announcer John Sterling and chat about the Women’s Professional Baseball League schedule, which dropped recently. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. A Pod of Their Own, Episode 271: Pathetic, wretched, and unsatisfactory
Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, the Mets snapped their 12-game losing streak only to turn around and start a brand new one in which they got swept by the Rockies, scoring one run total across a doubleheader. In the aftermath of the Red Sox clearing house, we wonder how much longer Carlos Mendoza will keep his job. We also talk about roster and injury updates, including Francisco Lindor’s injury, Christian Scott’s brief appearance in the big leagues in his first start back from Tommy John, the designation of Tommy Pham for assignment, and how lost Kodai Senga continues to look. Our only consolation is that the Phillies are just as bad as the Mets are. With that coping mechanism, we wrapped things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Home Run Applesauce podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! Welcome to Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World Series, the new/old favorite from Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. This week, Chris and Brian talk about the state of the Mets. There's some room for optimism and hope, but things keep getting in the way of good, fun baseball. Injuries, ineffectiveness, and bizarre decisions are seemingly always around the 2026 Mets. A Pod of Their Own, Episode 270: Cursed
Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by wondering—still in April, mind you—if the season can be saved and if Carlos Mendoza’s job can be saved, as the Mets ride a losing streak that is currently 11 games long. We also discuss Jorge Polanco’s trip to the injured list, Juan Soto’s imminent return from the injured list, and the starting pitching Titanic deck chair shuffling. As if the vibes weren’t rancid enough, we also talked about Francisco Lindor’s appearance on Barstool’s podcast and reporting by Bradford William-Davis on Mike Clevinger’s abuse, for which he was not suspended by MLB. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. A Pod of Their Own, Episode 269: Different year, different players, same problems
Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by discussing the Mets’ current losing streak and evaluate our level of concern about the offense, which has been struggling mightily during this stretch. Next, we talk about how nobody (except the Dodgers) really looks all that formidable across the league. We also highlight two excellent pieces of baseball reporting from the past week: a piece by Alden Gonzalez of ESPN about the tragic death of a Dominican teenager at the hands of a corrupt system and a story by Sam Blum at The Athletic about corruption of a different stripe—a sham frozen yogurt company that managed to scam the Angels and Diamondbacks out of millions of dollars. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. In the second half of the show, we talk about Jo Adell’s incredible defensive game, more instances of players getting insults and threats hurled at them because of legalized sports betting (which is a cancer), and legislation Bernie Sanders has introduced to try to keep sports franchises in their cities. This week, we begin by discussing some notes out of Mets camp, including Ryan Lambert’s unhinged energy (complimentary), Nolan McLean and Freddy Peralta’s strong starts, the battle for the right field job, and more. Next, we choose our Dudes for 2026—underrated players who we think may make a big contribution to the Mets this season. In the second half of the show, we talk about the upcoming World Baseball Classic, David Rubenstein’s private equity firm’s shady dealings, Arte Moreno’s notion that fans don’t care about winning, and the Rangers making some questionable decor choices at Globe Life Field. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. Emergency Applesauce: Ready Freddy
The Mets had an incredibly active 24-hour period, trading for Luis Robert Jr, Freddy Peralta, and Tobias Myers in exchange for Luisangel Acuña, Truman Pauley, Jett Williams, and Brandon Sproat. Just a week ago, fans were discussing how the team was having a terrible offseason, but the additions of Bo Bichette and this trio of new players has really put the team into a new conversation. Allison, Brian, and Thomas gather to discuss the new players, the reality of having a good farm system, what else might be done by the Mets, and why fans should never count their chickens before pitchers and catchers report. Flushing is Burning: We're so Bo-ack
Grace is back, recovered from yet another illness, to talk about the latest in baseball. First she gets into the Mets, who lost quite a few long time Mets while adding some big name free agents. They also have some big news brewing potentially with the Hall of Fame results imminent. Next, she speed runs the league's free agency news, trying to cover all of the big moves, especially the biggest move of Tucker. Then she once again comments on the "character clause" of the Hall of Fame qualifications, and the misuse of it to punish only what is perceived as bad for baseball and not actual major character flaws (and often crimes). Finally, she does an irreverent trans comedy as a movie minute, but it turns into a double movie minute when she realizes that movie is not currently widely available to the public. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by discussing the very busy 24 hours for the Mets between Thursday night when they missed out on Kyle Tucker and Friday afternoon when they pivoted to Bo Bichette instead. We also talk about whether a salary cap or a lockout is coming for baseball and where the Mets go from here this offseason. We also talk about the state of the NL East with the Mets sniping Bichette from the Phillies and the Braves losing their starting shortstop to injury for the first half of the season. We also shout out the record-breaking attendance at Capital One Arena in Washington DC for the PWHL game between the New York Sirens and the Montreal Victorie. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by bemoaning the lack of activity by the Mets, but really also across all of baseball. The stove: she is very cold. But there have been crumbs of rumors involving the Mets, who are still seeking to add a starting pitcher and an outfielder. We also say more power to Alex Cohen for simply logging off. In the second half of the show, we talk about the A’s trying (and failing) to get a trademark for their team name, the implications the escalating situation in Venezuela has for baseball and the World Baseball Classic, and how AI is biased against women’s sports. Flushing is Burning: Offseason: Loading
Grace is back with another episode, and some major news to talk about. First, the Mets have made a few moves, trading longtime Met Brandon Nimmo to the Rangers for Marcus Semien, which is sad from an emotional standpoint but makes sense from a baseball perspective. Then they signed Devin WIlliams, a very good move for their bullpen that also doesn't exclude the possibility of a Edwin Diaz return. They've been continually connected with Diaz, as well as Alonso, and half the other major free agents as well. Nexty, she gets into the rest of the offseason so far. The Blue Jays have made a couple of major moves, including the biggest deal of the offseason so far for Dylan Cease. The Red Sox traded for a few starting pitchers, one of whom is very excited for the Yankees rivalry. A couple of disappointing Mets trades last year have found new homes in the American League East. And the Dodgers re-signed a postseason hero. Finally, Grace's movie minute is a salute to The Running Man, a recent tentpole movie that got some more mixed reviews, but Grace found it to be a very relevant story for today. It's one of two Stephen King adaptations that Grace found very relevant and make an interesting double feature, even outside the obvious Stephen King connections.Follow us on Twitter/X @FIBPod, on Instagram @FlushingisBurningPod, and email us at [email protected]! Flushing is Burning: Talkin' Offseason
Grace returns from yet another hacking cough to discuss everything she's missed. First, she dives into the World Series. Better late than never! She discusses the fun and the message delivered by both teams in the razor thin series.Next, she dove into the present offseason. Free agents, the Mets movement, and the award winners. Plus some interesting postings, some contracts and trades that have happened, and the Hall of Fame ballot release. Finally, Grace's movie minute is a psychological thriller from this year set in the world of pop stardom. It's twisted, fun, and dark, a really good time to watch and dissect. A Pod of Their Own, Episode 257: ADHD Bisexual Disaster
Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we chat with friend of the pod Jen Ramos-Eisen about the fledgling Women’s Pro Baseball League ahead of next week’s draft. We discuss the choice of cities for the first four teams, the salaries, the logistics of the draft, what we think will determine the success of the league, and more. We then do a fun exercise where we propose potential team names for the New York WPBL team. Linda proposed the Meadowlarks (after Joan Payson’s preferred team name for what would eventually become the Mets), Maggie proposed the Queens (after New York’s best borough), and Allison proposed Excelsior (for New York’s motto). Check our socials to vote for your favorite! Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.
