A poem: How to be friends with a gay person a 5 step guide by Erika Jane

This week on Unpacked we wanted to share and highlight a poem by one of our favourite people, Erika Jane Dewald.  She is bravely sharing her story and experience of being a pan-sexual teenager through her poetry.  Erika Jane's poem was featured on The Indie YYC's Facebook page as a video too! She shares this challenging poem to remind us to accept and love kids and people for who they are - they do better. In honour of pride month we wanted to share a couple stories like Erika's because hearing stories from people of their hurt and their joy in all walks of life remind us it's impossible to love someone at arm's length. Whether it's LGBTQ+ community, Black Lives Matter, Indigenous communities or any marginalized group hearing the stories of kids and adults up close in our communities gives us more compassion to others and ourselves.  Because we love stories - we believe that stories clarify and  help to reflect on your story so you can write the one you desire for the future. Truth isn't always good or comfortable, but it is the starting point to growth. Unpacked is a podcast exploring life as messy people.
