A positive look at East Africa's Economy

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

According to a report conducted by Ecobank’s research team, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are the regions’ economic powerhouses and are enjoying a period of significant economic growth with their Gross Domestic Products forecast to grow by between 5.2% and 8.5% this year. Much of the region is reliant on agricultural crops and commodities for export earnings. Some further findings are that Kenya, with its diversified commodity exports, which include tea, horticultural goods and coffee, has started producing crude oil and Ethiopia is benefitting from strong foreign direct investment in infrastructure and industrial projects, among other things. To help us unpack the discussion for the day, we are joined by: • Gaimin Nonyane, is the Head of Economic Research at Ecobank the Pan African Bank• Victor Kgomoeswana, is a consultant on African business development and author of Africa is Open to Business(in studio)• Faith Mabera, is a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Global Dialogue
