Type 2 diabetes continues to rise in prevalence among adults, with expanding clinical complexity due to the increasing burden of comorbidities such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, and liver disease. Objectives  Review trends and incidence of type 2 diabetes in adult patients and associated comorbidities. Discuss evidence-based guidelines for screening and management of type 2 diabetes incorporating the updated guidelines from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Standards of Care. Describe patient-centered communication strategies to guide and motivate adult patients with type 2 diabetes to adopt lifestyle modifications.
