We examine the life of Clarence Earl Gideon, a prisoner and petty criminal who helped guarantee our fundamental right to counsel and free access to a Public Defender. In the example of Gideon, we are taught that no one is above the law, and no poor person is below the law. The Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments were never so alive!
