A Process for Setting Intentions in the New Year

from The Marvelous Middle Age Podcast · host Nicole Studt

This week on The Marvelous Middle Age Podcast I’m sharing how I set intentions for the New Year. Whether you call them intentions, goals, resolutions or something else, consider a few areas of focus for your life this year. I reflect back on the previous year, what worked and what didn’t work, what I learned and what and who I’m grateful for.  Next, I evaluate how I’m doing right now in various areas of my life. I look at things like health/wellness, finance, family/relationships, spiritual and personal growth, my home, career and community. My third step is to list out what does and does not matter, what you will say yes to this year and what you will say no to in the new year. Finally, I decide on a few areas of focus for the new year and break those areas down into smaller steps and spread those steps out across the year. I also evaluate my intentions every 90 days or so in case I need to pivot or cross something off my list.
