A Public Health Crisis with Dr. Chantal Fahmy

from More Life: The Reentry Podcast

Dr. Chantal Fahmy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She received her Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Arizona State University. Her research focuses on reentry and reintegration from prison, health criminology, social support, and the health-related consequences of incarceration. Her recent work has been published in Criminal Justice and Behavior, Journal of Adolescent Health, Social Science and Medicine, and Journal of Quantitative Criminology. In this episode, we aimed to give the audience a better understanding of health and its relationship to incarceration and reentry. More specifically we discussed common health trends among justice-involved populations, reasons why their health needs are impacted, and ways in which prison exacerbates health needs. In addition, we discussed the long term-consequences for not addressing justice involved health needs and how it shapes reentry outcomes. Lastly, recommendations were provided on different approaches that could be used to help address the health needs of justice-involved individuals.Be sure to Dr. Chantal Fahmy on Twitter: @ChantalFahmyCheck out their Professional Pages: Google Scholar- https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=R7p6oW8AAAAJ&hl=enUTSA Criminology & Criminal Justice profile- https://hcap.utsa.edu/criminal-justice/faculty/Please listen, subscribe, and rate/review this podcast.Follow us on Instagram - @morelifethereentrypodcastHost: VanKe’via Garner, M.
