NHL Free Agency opened with with the Calgary Flames extending defenceman Joel Hanley to a two year extension. The Flames bring back the LHD that took a giant leap in responsibilities jumping from an extra defenceman to top four pairing. The Flames are dealing with a bit of a log jam at every position except goalie. Does re-signing Hanley make any sort of sense when you have the likes of Ilya Solovyov, Yan Kuznetsov, Etienne Morin, Joni Jurmo, Artyom Grushnikov and Jeremie Poirier waiting in the wings?
