History: Bridgette Starr, Matildas Cap 80Starr was a defender who made her Matildas debut in 1994, playing 53 A internationals (1 goal) and 6 Non-A internationals. She was the first indigenous footballer to represent Australia at a World Cup (1999) and at the Olympic Games (2000). Starr is also a member of the Aboriginal and Islander Sports Hall of Fame.Former Matildas Team Manager, B90 co-founder and expert friend of the pod Sarah Groube had this to stay about Starr:"Legend! Bridgette was one of the many strong left footers of that era, playing mainly in the backline and strongly pushing up the field. As a Novocastrian she had a strong playing relationship with Cheryl Salisbury. Bridgette went on to play AFL where she was outstanding with ACT and was selected to a number of all-star teams. She’s now an extraordinarily fit cross-fitter. Her Mum Wendy was one of the many brilliant Matilda mums who set a strong legacy of parental support which continues today, travelling to tournaments where she could."Read More: Bridgette Starr, OlympianHot TopicsNewsIndia are out of the Asian CupMatildasAsian Cup results and discussionSignings: Around the World - Aussies/NZ AbroadDub Round 8Friday: Adelaide 1-0 WellingtonSaturday: Sydney 3-0 City (rescheduled R12 match)Sunday: Brisbane v Newcastle - POSTPONEDSunday: Perth 1-0 WSWSignings: Season 14 squad page Queens of the WeekCheryl - hard to go past Sam Kerr after she became Australia's all-time leading scorer, but as a long time Aivi Luik supporter, definitely have to give her a shoutout for scoring her first Matildas goal.Eric - 1) Atlético Madrid's Virginia Torrecilla played her first game in nearly two years after recovering from a brain tumour and chemotherapy 2) Aoife Colvill set up the first goal in Glasgow City's 4-0 win over SpartansMaj - Erin Cuthbert, for calling out a ridiculous and inappropriate newspaper headline after Chelsea's WSL Cup win over West HamDale - 1) the AFC media person who managed to fit all 18 of Australia's goals against Indonesia into a three minute highlights package 2) Iranian goalkeeper Zohreh Koudaei for an outstanding save against India, it's a shame that game was voided due to India's exclusion from the tournamentDon’t forget we’re live on Facebook on Monday evenings and you can subscribe to the Beyond 90 Podcast on iTunes, Spotify & Google Podcasts or anywhere you listen.Catch up on Cluch Radio 7pm Tuesday's or 7pm Wednesday's on JOY 🌈 AEDT.
