A safety pin
from Daily Picture · host Stephanie Hawkins
Today I saw a picture of a safety pin which has made me think on the Portuguese word "cuidar" to take care of, to look after. Its Latin root is 'cogitare' to think, to ponder, to consider but has now evolved into becoming linked to our physical being. Over centuries there have been those who recognise the two distinct parts of firstly, our spiritual mind with its thinking, reasoning and will, and then also our physical brain. Neurosurgeons are witnessing the thinking capabilities of humans with very limited functioning brain cells thus making a case for the existence of both a spiritual mind and a physical brain. In the New Testament, Jesus and Apostle Paul inspired by the Holy Spirit often refer to our need to direct our thinking on God and His promises. We need to nurture our spiritual being as well as our physical body. In the Gospel of John Chapter 14, Jesus is recounted as having said twice that we are not to let our hearts be troubled. The root of that word 'hearts' is related to our thinking. Paul warns us to set our minds on things above, not on things on the earth (see Colossians 3:2). "Do not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind" (Romans 12:2). Our spiritual eternal being is nurtured when it pays heed to its creator God.
