A saucer

from Daily Picture · host Stephanie Hawkins

Today I saw a picture of small shallow porcelain saucer upon which is usually placed a teacup. In the English language the words 'cup' and 'saucer' often come together as would say, 'bucket' and 'spade: These connected words are called collocations. One definition is "the habitual juxtaposition of a particular word with another word or words with a frequency greater than chance". Despite being accurate, that explanation could be overwhelming. Simplicity is often the key. Trusting God in all our affairs requires simplicity but often we complicate matters in our heads. Jesus even advises "Truly, I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18:3). As well as the need for simplicity, let us also recognise our need for God, as with a saucer being complemented by a teacup.
