But in this case, there is no conceivable benefit to motivate the king's act. His kindness was motivated, instead, by covenant love, and this love was lavished not on a faithful friend but on a potential enemy. But why is the story here? It's one of the most amazing pictures of God's kindness in all of the Bible.
