Judges 7:24-8:21 "Gideon's Failures"Gideon begins well. He has gathered the army of 300 that God set apart and defeated the Midianites. He chases them out of the Promised Land. The Tribe of Ephraim captures and executes the two generals. But Ephraim is insulted that Gideon did not call them at the beginning of the battle. Gideon handles Ephraim with diplomacy and respect.However, Gideon crosses the Jordan River and begins to act as an aggressor and agent of vengeance. He punishes Succoth and Penuel for their lack of hospitality. Then he exacts revenge on the kings of Midian.
