John Morales sits down with Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller after the devastating flash floods that ripped through Kerrville, TX over the 4th of July weekend. The floodwaters claimed the lives of over 100 people, including campers and counselors from Camp Mystic. 💔   Here’s what stands out from the conversation:      “Presence is the First Response”   Archbishop Gustavo says he visited families, survivors, and even presided over a Mass. Sometimes, he explains, just being there in silence was the most powerful thing he could offer.   He reminds us that God’s mercy is not abstract; it’s real, it’s human, and it shows up in hugs, tears, and shared silence.     At Sunday Mass in Kerrville, he watched grief and praise collide. Five babies were baptized that day, a stunning sign of life and hope, even while surrounded by death.   That paradox: baptismal water vs. floodwater, shaped his homily. It was a holy moment, but it was a raw one. The Body of Christ has been bruised but is still breathing.     “Where is God?”   John Morales asks: Why would a good God allow this?   Archbishop says that in times like this, people don’t need theology lectures. They need someone to hear their cry, just like God hears ours.   He reminds us that faith is not about having airtight answers; it’s about being there in the storm. And sometimes... even when we don’t see the sun, we trust it’s still shining behind the clouds. ☀️     So many have stepped up; over 850 water rescues, including one man who saved at least 160 people solo.
