God’s appearance near the altar shows that He is coming to personally deal with the nation. No matter where they try to hide from Him, they will be unsuccessful. God cannot stand the sin that has invaded Israel and must be rid of it though He will not completely destroy them, as there are some who remain faithful. This ultimate restoration described at the end of this book points back to the promise given to Abraham, Jacob, and David, and looks forward to the future of Israel at the end of times. The people did not truly love God, but when He works to redeem them, they will turn their hearts back to worship Him in His glory and provision.
