Extreme cold blasts during two of the last three winters have crippled gas-fired power plants, leaving millions in the dark and hundreds dead. And as natural gas is projected to grow in its role as a dominant source for electricity in the U.S., regulators are again worrying about the reliability of natural gas plants.
