A Thrill of Hope — 12.23.18 Sermon

Two days before Christmas, this message in the series A Thrill of Hope stops to ask what the season is actually for. Danny Cox defines sin as an archery term—missing the mark God intends—and walks Romans 6:23 to its hinge: the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ. There is nothing we can do to repair the debt; Christianity, he argues, is not spelled "DO" but "DONE." From Galatians 4, the message moves past forgiveness to adoption—being brought in as a son or daughter with full inheritance—illustrated by families he has walked through the adoption process. The hope of Christmas is not being defined by who we were, but being claimed into God's family.
