My wife introduced me to a guy who had separated from his wife of 20 years to everyone's dismay and shock. After some small talk he explained that he felt suffocated and i explained an allegory of a tree that needs to come out of the shadow of another tree after being planted too close together - this is the resulting discussion in lyric and music. A TREE IN THE SHADOW Twenty years - sounds like such a long long time but looking back - it seems just like yesterday are we really the same - people we were then. Just like two trees - planted too near to each other one took the sunlight - and gloried in the warmth while the other was overshadowed - and kept in the dark CHORUS: Is it natural to live in such a toxic world with negativity that eats away at the soul oh, come on baby - it's time to go like a tree in the shadow that needs to grow i'm the tree in the shadow but have a life too...... It came 14 years after Twain's death and so, "speaking from the grave", he felt he could be "as frank and free and unembarrassed as a love letter". The autobiographical chapters that he published years earlier in the North American Review, were selected more for their acceptability and potential popularity than for their completely true reflection of his inner thoughts. With the publication of Mark Twain's Autobiography in 1924, the world was introduced to a much more frank and less restrained Twain than had heretofore been seen or heard. At the same time as the murder, at least ten people saw Toforest Johnson four miles away, at a popular nightclub called Tee's Place. But detectives zeroed in on him as a main suspect in Deputy Hardy’s murder anyway, ultimately resulting in Toforest being tried, convicted, and sentenced to death.
