The music-related episodes presuppose that anything that Lou Barlow does, or thinks about musically, is interesting. Which is interesting. Lou thinks that he is the only person who has ever lived that truly understands the genius of a band called the Music Machine. They had a hit in 1966, the year of Lou's birth.

He takes this one personal. He really loves this band, and he wants to tell you about him. Yeah, he wants to tell you about him. You take a person.

And as a special guest, he's pulled the lead singer to the world, briefly from the afterlife, to be here on the Ron Preshins podcast. Welcome, Sean. I was going to do... I was going to base this whole episode off of me pretending to be Sean Bonoel, and kind of affecting his voice.

And as I started to do it, I just couldn't get into it. Like, I didn't think it was funny. Okay. Follow that feeling.

Sean Bonoel, to me, is one of the most fascinating musical figures of all time. I love the music machine so much. They had a hit in 1966 called Talk Talk. Listen to it right now.

Anybody... Such a unique band. So far ahead of their time. I mean, people talk about the Velvet Underground.

Sure. I'm down with that. Go-chin, pass it. These are words that appeared on the very first album.

The music machine put out. It was called Turn On The Music Machine. They used those words. Assertain, comption, in the songs.

They are so strange. The band is so odd. They're like one part cringe, like so earnest and so like, blown out and theatrical. But then they had this incredible band that played this really interesting music.

You know, that was like sort of the lead singer, Sean Bonoel, called it Chinese jazz, but that's not it. He was so strange. The things he said. But the music was so the way it was put together was so unconventional.

Like in the way that people think Captain Befart and Frank Zappa did at the time. But this was even stranger. I think it was more iconic. Like incredibly melodic.

Sean Bonoel was a gifted songwriter who wrote incredible melodies. Ehh, where'd I go? I see the feelings. They're coming out of your body.

I love this. I love this. This is a band that, you know, it's like you feel it with your whole body. You feel them with your whole body.

And when I listen to them, I sing along. I've got things on my mind. And now as an ultra special gift. As a well-sub-special feature, Sean Bonoelel is to sing to do vocals for a quaint, four-track version of this song.

Some other drum. Sean will be lending his vocals to lose arrangement. Welcome, Sean. Thank you.

My name is Sean. Not John. Like Dick Clarkson. Dick.

This is Sean Bonoelelelel. Absolutely not. Rolling along. Be appearing on this podcast.

So the show will not be doing a lame impersonation of Sean Bonoelel. Taking the song up through. You will not be doing a limitation. It will not be.

This was back to the memory of Sean Bonoelel. I'm a well-used. This is so cool. This is so collagey.

No, it's a, I love it. It's like a or track guy presents some other drum. It's an ear which is a performed by the music machine. In 1966.

In 1966. I don't know where it's coming from. I don't know. I don't know where it's coming from.

Some it seems I'm marching on time wrong But they're only hearing some other drum So to see Life's just a card You play it right Oh you play it hard It's a personal snack I would if I could but I can't Everybody's singing their own song Everybody's got their own plums Some it seems I'm marching on time wrong They're only hearing some other drum So you see Life's just a card You play it right Oh you play it hard It's a personal snack I would if I could but I can't I would if I could but I can't I would if I could but I can't Ooh Meet Shark Cryoglo, the new med spa inspired mask with under-eye cooling, IQ LED technology using high-powered LED and deep infrared for visible results in just eight weeks Better aging treatment boosts collagen and is clinically tested to reduce fine lines and signs of aging. Yep. That's a great song It's a great song Which speaks to how great they were Oh, could I say something? Yes I think they're a band that I know so little about So so little But there's things about them that superficially are really satisfying to me And it doesn't happen Where all these things kind of often all work for me And my little weird things You're so personal, slant I would if I could not have Personal slant That's incredible Who's that line in 1966 in a song? Yeah Personal slant I see I just wanted to say I'll say quickly in case I think the music machine for the name of a band is incredible And like charming and so right And then just the names of the songs Like they make me feel kind of crazy You know, even if I haven't even heard the song yet I love the titles of so many of these songs And like masculine intuition Well, and talk talk Just that alone is like brilliant Like just calling a song talk talk I don't even know what it's about But I just love that name of that song I want to sing one verse of masculine intuition for you Please do The checks on the table depends And you don't see sharp Hold please You're making down to be sharp Yeah I'm pretty sure of that one For a track guy But about you, are you pretty sure about that one?

They tuned their instruments down Which is one of the many extraordinary things about the band They tuned way down To see sharp so like the lows were low Anyway, the checks on the table depends in your hand And if that makes you happy, then nothing else can My mind's on the long re-while you, a sleep away If I had the gumption, I'd leave you today Ahh Gumption That's a confusing song, what's happening in there? Masking me in to do it bamblah Is masculine intuition as to do the laundry? It's a really cool song I mean, I don't want to... I welcome that, right?

The lyrics of that song are so fucking complicated Yeah, it feels like they're playing it Like a role playing or something He's talking about his life with his partner That's what I mean, almost sounds like he's talking from a woman's perspective there And then... no? I don't know They're so intense That masculine intuition is from their first record they had On their first record, there were one, two, three, four, five, six, seven Original songs and then seven crazy good covers There were five covers, one, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven That's all I'm talking about Fourteenth songs? I don't know if it's Fourteenth songs I didn't write down all the...

Seven original There's a really good Neil Diamond cover Five covers? Really? That's interesting Oh, the song is on the second one I want to get it on this Ahh It's Sean Baldwin's kind of like Sean Baldwin's... Well, like his name, too He is...

What a cute name I can feel it I feel his spirit You should, for a turn You can find me singing many of Sean's tunes Ocappella and I don't want to I'm like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're like, you're me singing a song ocappella Oh, yeah Yeah, way The girl, the little girl Does four-track me on my mind? I'm like, yeah His one His one Sometimes dreaming of it His scheming on you Collecting headers with nothing better to do Your memory is everywhere Loving you is in my hair and eyes Maybe with the time and please Come upon your face, oh Surprise When you see the people in me Minus you what will you do When you see the people in me Minus you it over and do While I'm crying, I'm rectifying the call Friends that she ran And I'm here in the close The train is here, you better run Don't call me, I'll never come On to you And then over now the games you play Just what you do Just what you say Oh, oh you And every song was two minutes long Like that's it, like two minutes and change I feel about that It's crazy, this song is super short and they're full of crazy fuzz guitar Like really like, man, scabbing fuzz, lo, crazy People have got to listen to them Get on the YouTubes and go watch some of their performance As it's a man, they were such cute little outfits and get clapped And then they have this funny bulk cut They cut their hands Like many bands from the 60s, they became rock bands Like the birds, for instance, very much like the birds They were a folk band Before they became a rock band They were all of these folk bands You know, like Pete Seger led folk first They falked first Bob Dylan Bob Dylan, and then when the Beatles happened Mmm, fuck out and they're like Why the fuck am I playing a fucking banjo right now? Hand me a fucking electric guitar And I want to curl my fucking hair I mean they were like I'm gonna plug this thing into a box It makes it out in the sick time And probably a good time to conclude I know I don't want to stop talking about it I don't want to stop it again I'm not going to wait it I don't want to stop right now Version of the Ron Precious podcast You don't have to baby, what do you want? Mini music, whatever day Mini music, whatever day Thank you for listening And thank you to Sean Donald Thank you We...

... us the... ... I don't know Yes, definitely That's a big part too ...
