A Trophy of Grace
from The Lightroom
Like an Olympic swimmer in shallow waters, cool with average, way below my covenant capacity, comfortable in mediocrity, coping with redundancy, but you've called my name. You saw through my folded arms, you touched my tired heart, El Roy. You saw my face while it was covered, Ebenezer, you saw my helplessness, and you were deeply attracted. You are the potter and I am the clay. My brokenness was material for your building project, you've unlocked possibilities in me I didn't realize could ever happen. You've made me believe nothing is impossible. Healing for my heart, you've helped me see, you've helped me become. I'm becoming the masterpiece you spoke of, piece by piece, you've put me together like perfect shalom, nothing missing, nothing broken, nothing lacking. When you said, my peace I give to you, I receive. You could have counted me out, impressed me from a distance. I could even play background, run away from spotlight, but you called me out, light of the world, shine your light, be your street light, shine to the nations. So this little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. You've called out my name and my fears ran for fear that your eternal light will expose them. This relationship will never end, this son, this God, this love, this life, this light that breaks my night. And the emptiness in me has been filled with your life and you called it grace. Now I say these many lines to express how lines have fallen for me in pleasant places. I'm a trophy of your grace. I'm a trophy of your grace.
