That's the International Space Station. 六月時,兩個很興奮的太空人,駕著太空船飛到了 ISS,也就是國際太空站。 Astronauts try new things in space there! These things help us learn more about space. 太空人要嘗試很多新事物,幫助我們更了解太空。 The ISS is also a big space home. Some astronauts live there for six months. Some visit for a short time. The two astronauts were going to visit for eight days. 國際太空站是個大型的太空之家,兩個太空人原本要住在那裡八天。 But their spaceship had some problems. It has small engines. They help the spaceship fly. But some small engines didn't work well. Scientists on Earth didn't know why. But the two astronauts got to the ISS safely. 他們順利到了國際太空站,但是太空船的引擎出了問題! 科學家們都找不出原因。 The engines were not easy to fix. So the astronauts didn't fly home after eight days. They didn't fly home after eight weeks! 引擎很難修理,所以他們在太空站待了 8 個星期都還沒回家! Then the engines were fixed. But was the spaceship safe for the astronauts? The scientists didn't know. 引擎最後修好了,但科學家不確定太空船安不安全。 So the astronauts will use another spaceship. And they will fly home… next year, in February! 所以這兩位太空人會使用另一艘太空船˙,不過要等到明年 2 月才能回到家 ! The astronauts' eight-day trip will be an eight-month trip! Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems.
