A Week in the Life of Jesus — Triumphal Entry
from LifeWell Messages
Luke 19:28–44 opens the Passion Week with Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a borrowed colt. The crowd spreads cloaks and shouts blessing, but this message reads the scene against the long backstory of God's pursuit of humanity — from a perfect creation, through the fall, to the centuries of messianic prophecy that the donkey itself fulfills (Zechariah 9:9). The owner of the colt surrenders it at one phrase, “the Lord needs it,” and that becomes the question pressed on the listener: if the Lord needs something in your life, is that enough? The same crowd that praises here will soon shout “crucify him,” exposing how fickle worship can be when Jesus does not match our expectations. Jesus weeps over a city that missed its visitation and even prophesies its destruction in A.D. 70. The closing call is plain: not a conquering king to vanquish enemies, but the King of kings who alone brings peace — will you take him as yours?
