A whale spouting out of its blow hole
from Daily Picture · host Stephanie Hawkins
Today I saw a whale spouting out what I thought was water from its blow hole though in fact, as the name suggests, it is air that the whale is expelling with great force, creating a misty spray. Being mammals, whales and dolphins have to do this on a regular basis. In the bible we read of the breath of the Holy Spirit. Soon after Jesus had died He came back and visited his disciples who had been hiding in fear behind locked doors. "...He breathed on them and said, 'Receive the Holy Spirit ...' " (John 20:22). He further "presented Himself to His apostles, giving many convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over a period of 40 days and spoke about the Kingdom of God" (Acts 1:3). He told them that they were to wait for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. They waited and received Him with power (Acts 2:1-4). After that they were mighty witnesses of God's Power and Love. They were initially connected to the Holy Spirit like a power source, when Jesus visited them, and then when they were baptised in the Holy Spirit (emersed), it was like pressing Play. They then operated in His power. As with the analogy of the whale with its blow hole, we need the breath of the Holy Spirit on a regular basis. It is not enough just to be connected, if we want to operate in His power and be His witnesses. We need to be emersed in Him, which is what baptism refers to.
