He teaches classes in early and modern American literature, literary studies, and composition. He served in the England Bristol mission, and his wife, Jennifer, served in the Wisconsin Milwaukee mission. They met and later married while attending BYU in Provo after his best friend and her sister got together and lined them up on a date. After completing his PhD in American literature and rhetorical studies at the University of Missouri, he taught at the University of Tennessee at Martin for 17 years where he and Jennifer raised their three children. Since 2019, they have lived in Laie.
