AARP Mississippi continues to advocate for measures to help the state’s family caregivers

November is “National Family-Caregivers Month”. And, according to “A-A-R-P Mississippi”, each year, 470-thousand family-caregivers—throughout the state—provide unpaid contributions that are worth four-point-seven-billion dollars. Kimberly L- Campbell is the group’s state-director… “Family-caregivers provide an immense contribution—often at a significant, personal cost, and with little guidance: They provide in-home medical-care, perform nursing-tasks, and can have a wide range of other duties; six-in-10 also hold down an outside job. Yet, their dedication can lead to burnout, financial loss, and social isolation. And, those challenges have generally been viewed as a private matter. ‘A-A-R-P’ has endorsed the bipartisan ‘Credit for Caring Act’—which would provide a tax-credit of up to five-thousand dollars, for eligible, working family-caregivers. And, we’re pushing for paid leave for caregiving—along with broader access to both home- and community-based services.
