AARP Tennessee awards nine local organizations with grants to promote livable communities

from North American Network

Nine organizations, throughout Tennessee, will receive a total of 99-thousand dollars, in grants—to promote livable communities, with an emphasis on the needs of older residents. The grants are from “A-A-R-P Tennessee”—as part of the national “Community Challenge”-program. Rebecca Kelly is the group’s state-director… “We’re incredibly proud to collaborate with these organizations, as they work to make immediate improvements in their communities—especially because they help people who are 50 or older continue to age in place. Our nine grantees will implement projects to improve housing, transportation, public spaces, civic engagement, and local connections. All of these projects are expected to be completed by year’s-end—while many aim to revitalize areas that have been hurt by the pandemic. Our goal is for communities—throughout Tennessee—to be great places for people of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities.” This year’s grantees are in Chattanooga, Knoxville, Memphis, Nashville, and Sewanee.
