Don’t let the season of cheer become a season of scams: “A-A-R-P Texas” is providing older consumers—and their families—with information to stay safe from holiday-fraud. And, volunteer Eddie Orum says that scammers during the holidays often prey on people’s generosity… “Armed with dirty tricks, these ‘grinches’ might weave elaborate stories to pull at your heartstrings, as they slip their sticky fingers into your wallet. A common ‘grandparent scam’ can involve a fake story of a relative in trouble—who needs money to fix their car, get out of jail, or get home for the holidays. But, before you offer any help to someone who claims to be your grandchild, call a family-member—just to verify the emergency. Beware of a caller who insists on secrecy.
