Watchmen is filled with history long forgotten. The saddest portion of that fact is the history in question is our own. While history has tried hard to hide the blood stains of The 1921 Tulsa Massacre and the optimistic spirits of Black Wall Street – their importance finds new life in the famed DC Comics heroes. Equally, as forgotten, is the place where Angela and Cal find their last name from. In the early 1970s, Blaxploitation found its audience through several new films. One of which was 1977’s Abar: The First Black Superman. While it might be an obscure piece of cinema history, its message in nonetheless relevant to today’s culture. Join us as we discuss the film’s importance, relation to the Watchmen series, its themes and more.
