Abi Brooks: Connecting History and Modern Values in Our Ackworth School House Structure

The focus of this presentation is on the need to invigorate the House system within Ackworth School, recognising that, under the current framework, there is a sense of apathy amongst the student body. Abi Brooks, a current U6 student and School Officer, reflects upon the historical significance of the House system and acknowledges that it has not fostered the sense of belonging and pride that was previously the case and that we aspire to achieve. The proposal she has put forth advocates for a modernization of house names and structures to better resonate with our diverse community and reflect the values we uphold as a Quaker school. By establishing connections to figures who have positively impacted our institution, the aim is to create a more meaningful and engaging experience for all students. Ultimately, Ackworth seeks to cultivate a renewed sense of identity and community that transcends individual houses, fostering unity and pride throughout the entire student body.
