Abiding in Christ Every Day

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”John 15:5The Christian life is not meant to be lived in our own strength. Jesus did not say that we could do only a little without Him, He said, “without me ye can do nothing.” Just as a branch cannot survive apart from the vine, neither can we grow spiritually or bear lasting fruit apart from Christ.To abide in Christ means to remain close to Him day by day. We abide through prayer, by reading and obeying His Word, and by depending upon Him in every circumstance. When we try to face life’s challenges relying on our own wisdom and ability, we soon become weary and discouraged. But when we stay connected to Christ, His strength becomes our strength, His peace steadies our hearts, and His grace enables us to serve Him faithfully.Today, ask yourself: Am I depending on Christ, or am I depending on myself? Fruitfulness is not produced by striving harder but by abiding closer. As we remain in Him, He produces in us a life that glorifies God and blesses others.PrayerHeavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son to be the true Vine. Help me to abide in Christ each day and to depend upon Him rather than upon my own strength.
