Abike, the Virgin Bride

Let’s talk about Abike, a 39-year-old who got married twenty years ago as a virgin. She was young, full of life and filled with hope and longed for a glorious future. A big house in a large compound, many children and they would all be hers Ola, her husband was a gentleman. Though ten years older, he treated her like a queen. Life was good and she could not hope for a nicer home. He gave her all she needed; she was extremely happy; it felt like heaven was smiling down at her alone. One year rolled into another and the children were not showing up. At first, no one thought anything of it, especially Abike. She did not imagine that she could have a problem bearing children. she married pure for crying out loud! When the in laws began to ask questions, they answered with confidence. the story was that they were just not ready for children. they wanted to enjoy ourselves before they came. Ola was extremely gentle and nice, never bothered her nor did he show any signs or worry. if she raised any fears, he was quick to allay them.  He believed in God and His timing. She believed in my husband. Then it was five years, and she began to feel uncomfortable. She needed to know what the issues were. She needed to consult the professionals. Her hubby was not interested. His point was if he did not worry Her, he did not see any reason why She would worry. By now, she still thought nothing of it. She held my peace another year, now twenty five! What was the point of marrying early if Abike was going to wait to live her dream of a quiver full of arrows? She became restless and decided to do something or at least start something. Her hubby would not budge but she could care less. It was also her life and she would not watch it slip by. She consulted doctors and ran series of tests. All was good but Oga needed to run his own and they ran into a roadblock. Oga saw no need. Children would come when they would. What was the hurry? God would come through when He was ready.e was H Abike cried, pleaded, threatened, Ola stood his ground. She could not understand his stand. This guy was thirty-five at the time, did he not want children or did his plans for the future not include them? Two more years of no progress whatsoever and she decided to force things. He reluctantly agreed but chose the doctor. She was happy; at least he would come along. They ran the tests and everything was certified ok. Something in her did not have rest. She felt like something was amiss. She turned to God and He helped calm her soul.  By the tenth year, Abike had kind of resigned to the fact that she may never have any children of her own. I thought of adoption. Her hubby was undecided, and she would no longer wait for him. She set the process in motion and was put on a wait list. Strangely though, one month ran into six years on the waiting list.
