Abortion Extortion (4/18/24)

Abortion is once again a hot issue, conveniently taking stage again as we prepare for the fall elections. This time we visit Arizona where the courts have said that since there is no law on abortion, the state must resort to the Howell Code from 1864 until the legislature and governor can draft, debate, and pass a new law. SB 1164 is already on the books but it is awaiting further approval. That law, like the Howell Code, actually allows for medical abortions, which could classify rape and incest as medical or psychological, and does not punish women for seeking abortions. Even so, neither Republicans or Democrats care to be honest about what the law says or even how the rule of law works. The media also parrots the talking points. Fear of incarceration and death fill the heads of young women who are extorted to vote for something they essentially already have. Context matters, as does the difference between statistical fact and anecdotal stories.
