About the PSP and its UMDs.

The PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a handheld gaming console developed and released by Sony in 2004. It was designed to bring console-quality gaming to a portable device, offering sleek hardware, a large, high-resolution screen, and multimedia functionality. The PSP could play games, music, videos, and even browse the internet, making it a versatile entertainment device for its time.One of the PSP’s defining features was its use of Universal Media Discs (UMDs). UMDs are small, proprietary optical discs encased in protective plastic shells, specifically created for the PSP. They could store up to 1.8GB of data, which was enough to hold full console-quality games, movies, or other media. This allowed the PSP to deliver visually rich games and feature-length films in a compact format. Though innovative, UMDs were eventually phased out as digital downloads and memory cards became more popular.
