Absolute Batman Annual
from Bros Foes and Heroes
This week, we continue our series of creators we are thankful for as Zach and Mike dive into the Absolute Batman Annual #1, featuring a powerful new story written and illustrated by Daniel Warren Johnson (Do a Powerbomb, Wonder Woman: Dead Earth). Zach breaks down why Johnson’s gritty, kinetic art and storytelling make this one of the most striking Batman tales in years. A raw, violent, and deeply human look at what justice means in a broken world. Along the way, the guys talk about Batman as a man of the people, how DWJ balances chaos with compassion, and why his work always manages to punch you in the heart. Then, they revisit one of Johnson’s earlier works. The Superman: Red & Blue short story that proves even the Man of Steel’s greatest power might be love, empathy, and a good Kansas dad. Things get personal as Zach and Mike reflect on fatherhood, legacy, and the messages that shape who we become. It’s an episode that mixes laughs, deep comic talk, and genuine emotion. Everything that makes Bros, Foes, and Heroes what it is.
