Accelerating Cross-sector Pandemics Innovation During Covid (S04 Ep22)

from A Shot in the Arm Podcast · host Ben Plumley

This is a recording of a networking session organized by the American Society for Microbiology at the World Microbe Forum in June 2021. Ben met Professor Jonna Mazet, UC Davis,  Professor Simon Frost, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Principal Data Scientist at Microsoft and Dr Jay Wohlgemuth, CMO of Quest Diagnostics. Opening remarks were made by ASM's Past President, Professor Victor DiRita and its CEO, Dr Stefano Bertuzzi. And the event was organized by the ASM's Chief Business Development Officer, Dr Christine Rousseau.Among many innovations, the session highlighted developing diagnostic tests now for the "red level" pathogens we know now could become new pandemics, strengthening global networks of laboratories to identify new threats and respond rapidly, backed up by biological weather stations, to predict and manage data both in the field - and in the cloud. And of course, communications and outreach with the general public to remain vigilant, informed and aware. You can find this episode and past episodes of A Shot in the Arm Podcast with Ben Plumley on this (and other) podcast platforms.
