Access to the Promised Future – Part 4: How to Deal with Your Obstacles

from Rock Of Refuge Ministries · host Pastor Njabulo

📖 Joshua 3:1–17 (NLT)Introduction: “Arrived” — But Not Yet FinishedJoshua 3:1 NLTIsrael had been through an incredible journey to reach the Jordan:400 years of slavery in Egypt.God delivered them with mighty acts — 10 plagues and the Red Sea miracle. He fed them when they were hungry. He sweetened the bitter water of Marah and led them to Elim with 12 flowing springs. He provided water from a rock — twice! He literally made rivers in the desert.Yet, many still died in the wilderness, including Moses. Now, standing at the Jordan River with a new leader, it would’ve been easy to feel like they had “arrived.”But in life, we never truly arrive — there’s always another obstacle, another level, another assignment from God.⚠️ They camped there before crossing.Don’t build a permanent home in a temporary location.Have you camped too long at:The loss of someone dear?A dream that didn’t materialize?A financial struggle?A personal weakness the enemy keeps using against you?🛑 Don’t let that become your permanent place. It’s time to cross over to the other side.1. Let the Ark and the Priest Go Ahead📖 Joshua 3:3–5 NLTPut God first in everything you do — He must go ahead of you.The priest represents the presence of God and the pastoral office.Sadly, many pastors today are disrespected due to false prophets and abuse in the Church. But if your pastor teaches God’s Word truthfully, serves in humility, and prays in the name of Jesus through the Holy Spirit — honour that leader. That’s rare in our generation.Don’t let social media discredit the divine structure God uses.Full-time pastors sacrifice their time to intercede for you.Bi-vocational pastors balance both ministry and career to support the church and their families. Both are called. Respect both.🧭 “Stay half a mile behind” means — don’t rush ahead of God’s appointed leadership.⚔️ “Purify yourselves” — God moves most powerfully through clean vessels.2. Deal With the Source of the Problem📖 Joshua 3:13–16 NLTFaith was required — the priests had to step into overflowing waters.God didn’t stop the water until they moved.God moves when you move. • The water stopped at Adam — the source — to show us a principle:🎯 Deal with problems from the root, not just the symptoms.🧠 Many people live stuck in cycles because they only treat surface issues. But the power of God addresses things at the source — trauma, sin, fear, patterns, curses — it all gets dealt with upstream.3. Set Up Memorial Stones — Build a Legacy📖 “We will use these stones to build a memorial… These stones will stand as a memorial among the people of Israel forever.”— Joshua 4:6–7 NLT📖 “This is where the Israelites crossed the Jordan on dry ground… just as He did at the Red Sea.”— Joshua 4:21–23 NLTThe stones were not decorative — they were declarations.God expects us to remember His faithfulness and to pass it on.📖 “Joshua had to circumcise them…”— Joshua 5:4–5 NLTAn entire generation wasn’t circumcised — proof of how spiritual discipline was not passed on.We cannot afford to let our youth grow up disconnected from the foundational truths of God.Empower the next generation to go further than us.Conclusion: Gilgal – A New Beginning📖 “Today I have rolled away the shame of your slavery in Egypt.”— Joshua 5:9 NLTGod brought them:From slavery,Through the wilderness,Into the promise. He still does the same today. You don’t have to die in the bondage of sin or defeat.🙌🏾 Jesus is our true Gilgal — the one who rolls away our shame.📖 “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”— 2 Corinthians 3:17 NKJV📖 “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free… If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”— John 8:32, 34, 36 NKJV🕊️ Your crossing is not just geographical — it’s spiritual.Your past is not your prison — Jesus has made a way.Don’t camp in pain — step into promise.Amen. 🙏🏾
