from Rock Of Refuge Ministries · host Pastor Njabulo
📖 Joshua 5:1 (NKJV)“So it was, when all the kings of the Amorites who were on the west side of the Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, that their heart melted; and there was no spirit in them any longer because of the children of Israel.”1. Introduction: When God Fights for You, the Enemy PanicsWhat God did at the Jordan made Israel’s enemies lose courage.Their hearts melted in fear. They lost their will to fight.God’s power sent shockwaves before Israel even lifted a weapon.💡 Life Lesson:Sometimes we are unaware of how much others respect (or fear) the God we serve.People may never say it, but when they see your consistent walk with God, they recognize the hand of God on your life. How do you know the enemy fears you?He attacks your integrity (pride, compromise, unfairness). He speaks lies to your heart: “You’re not good enough, you’re too broken, you’ll never make it.”He stirs up your past temptations — your old weaknesses.📖 1 Peter 5:8 NKJVThe devil fears not your name, but the name of the Lord you carry.⚠️ Don’t compromise your relationship with God in the name of convenience or pressure.Stay planted in truth — the rest will fall into place.2. Renewal of the Covenant📖 Joshua 5:2–3 NKJVIsrael was about to face war, but God instructed circumcision, not swords. This was not about physical readiness, but spiritual alignment.💡 Life Lesson:When victory seems close, don’t stop seeking God.Sometimes we pray less when we feel strong. But true strength comes from continued dependence on God.Circumcision was a blood covenant — a symbol of holiness, obedience, and relationship.📖 James 4:8 NKJV📖 Matthew 5:8 NKJV In the New Covenant, we renew our covenant through:Prayer and fastingThe Lord’s Supper (Luke 22:19–20)Walking in purity and obedience3. Heal Before You Fight📖 Joshua 5:8 NKJVBefore stepping into war, they needed time to heal. You can’t fight your best when you’re still bleeding inside. Life Lesson:You can’t pour from an empty cup.Hurt pastors, hurt spouses, hurt parents — we all need healing before stepping back into battle. Examples:Preaching through pain without healing causes you to bleed publicly.Marrying in pain can bring trust issues and sabotage love.Leading while bitter results in resentment, not revival.📖 Psalm 147:3 NKJV📖 Matthew 11:28 NKJV4. Manna Ceased — Do Your Part📖 Joshua 5:12 NKJVFor 40 years, God miraculously provided manna. But once they reached the land, the manna stopped. Why? Because God had empowered them to cultivate their own land. Life Lesson:God won’t do what He’s empowered you to do.Don’t wait for manna when you have a plow in your hand.James 2:17 NKJV Want a promotion?Pray for favour,Arrive on time,Work with excellence,Keep integrity,Prepare diligently. If you cling to manna when God wants you to grow crops, you’ll miss your development season.📖 Ecclesiastes 9:10 NKJV5. Conclusion: Jesus Goes Before You in Battle📖 Joshua 5:13–15 NKJVJoshua encounters a pre-incarnate appearance of Christ:He is called “Commander of the Lord’s army.”The word “Man” and “His” are capitalized.Joshua worships Him — and unlike angels, this “Man” receives the worship. He says, “Take off your sandal…” just as God said to Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3:5).Life Lesson: Before you face Jericho (your next challenge), meet with Jesus the Commander.Don’t go into any battle alone. Let Jesus lead the way.📖 Exodus 14:14 NKJV📖 1 John 4:4 NKJVConclusion: Prepared for WarThe pattern of spiritual preparation:1. Recognise your enemy fears you2. Renew your covenant with God3. Heal before you fight4. Stop depending on manna5. Let Jesus lead Whatever battle lies ahead — Jesus is with you.Final Scripture📖 Ephesians 6:10–11 NKJVAmen. 🙏🏾
