Access to the Promised Future – Part 9: Don’t Rent the Future—Own It
from Rock Of Refuge Ministries · host Pastor Njabulo
(Finale – Inheritance Is More Than Land— It’s Legacy)📖 Joshua 13:1–2 (NKJV)Introduction: Will It Ever End?God looked Joshua straight in the face and said: “You’re old.”That’s not an insult—it’s reality. Joshua’s time was running out. His time was almost over, but the mission was not yet complete. This reminds us: we are not here forever. Because of that, we must think carefully about the legacy we leave behind.Key Truth: Inheritance is GenerationalEvery generation inherits both victories and unfinished battles. Even in moments of great triumph, there are always new challenges for those who come after us.Some inherit debts and poverty (liabilities).Others inherit businesses, investments, and land (assets). What we leave behind determines whether the next generation starts life at a disadvantage or with a head start. This was true in Joshua’s day—and it remains true for us today.Mistakes the Next Generation Often MakesTaking things for granted, assuming life will always remain as their parents left it.Believing the illusion of the “soft life.Squandering inheritance, like the prodigal son (Luke 15:11–13).Failing to put in the same effort that their parents did to build what they now enjoy. You know what the danger is?Unfinished Battles – Dealing with the PhilistinesGod told Joshua: “There remains very much land to be possessed.”Translation? Some problems are not yours to solve. Some problems are for the next generation to face.🗣️“You Can’t Kill Every Giant, But You Can Raise Giant-Slayers.”This means: No matter how faithful or effective you are, your children will face battles of their own. Your duty is to equip them to fight.🗣️“Inheritance Is More Than Land—It’s Legacy.”The Land Issue (Joshua 13–22)This section of Joshua is all about land ownership and inheritance.🗣️“Don’t Rent the Future—Own It!”📖 Key Truth:The one who possesses the land, possesses the wealth. Land always carries the potential for generational growth.🗣️ “From Eden to New Jerusalem—It’s Always Been About the Land.”From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is a story of land: Eden → Promised Land → New Jerusalem.Practical Lessons on Land OwnershipFarming: Mining:.Politics & War: Key NoteTrue wealth is tied to land. Without ownership, identity and security are weakened.Example of Courage – The Bravery of Caleb📖 Joshua 14:10–12 – At 85 years old, Caleb said: “Give me this mountain!”📖Joshua 15:14 NKJV“Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak from there: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.”🗣️“You Don’t Need Easy Land. You Need Promised Land.”Caleb was 85 years old.Still strong. Still ready. Still believing. The giants didn’t scare him. The mountains didn’t intimidate him.He wasn’t asking for easy land.He was asking for hard land.Because he believed the harder the battle, the greater the glory. With God on our side, we can never lose (Romans 8:31).Fair Treatment for Women📖 Joshua 17:3–6 – Zelophehad’s daughters boldly claimed their rightful inheritance. In a society that overlooked women, God made provision for justice and equality. This shows that God values dignity, fairness, and inclusion.📖 Psalm 68:5–6 reminds us that God is a defender of the marginalized. The City of Refuge (Joshua 20:2–6)God commanded cities where people could run for safety after accidental death. These were places of grace and protection in a world of revenge. Conclusion: Choose Whom You Will Serve📖 Joshua 24:15–16 After all the battles, victories, and possessions, the greatest inheritance is faith in God.Success without faith is failure. The greatest legacy you can leave your children is not land, money, or assets—but a house that serves the Lord. But the greatest inheritance is a legacy of faith.Choose wisely. Choose Jesus. And you are guaranteed victory that lasts beyond this life. 🏆But if you have the Lord, even if you lose everything else—you still win.
