Accidents & Intentions // Rev. Matt Kennedy // Nov 10 2024

from Roseville Covenant Sermons · host Roseville Covenant Church

On the first page of the Bible we read a carefully composed ancient creed that gives us a deep look into what philosophers and theologians call, cosmology, "the order of the universe." Last week Pastor Karina told us about the pre-creation chaos. Genesis 1:2 tells us the uncreated world was "wild and waste," churning waters of disorder. But very quickly in the Biblical story we see the hand of God bringing order out of chaos. God creates a world with structure and purpose, a habitat of fecundity and stability. Each biome and phylum God declares, "good" (vs. 1:9, 12, 18, 25). The wild and waste is transformed into field and garden. That life exists at all on this planet is miraculous. Creation and existence itself is the first "good news" we ever hear. We exist by a gracious act of God, and when we consider this creator and his order and purpose of the universe... it gives us some direction for our own lives as well.
