It's not difficult to recognize the news cycle these days, because regardless of which story is dominating the news at any given time all outlets seem to be on the same page. For example, last week the story that was dominating the news cycle was the impending indictment and arrest of President Trump in New York. It was all everyone was talking about. It was not only the main topic of discussion on news and opinion shows, it was the punchline for all of the jokes the comedians told on the late night shows. However, as the days of the week ended without an indictment it began to appear that Trump would not be arrested after all. The case against Trump seemed to be falling apart, and the grand jury didn't even meet at the end of the week. This was embarrassing to all of the talking heads and comedians that had been preparing their viewers and making jokes about an imminent Trump indictment. They were in desperate need of a change in the news cycle.
