According2Sam #58

from According2Sam Podcast · host Samuel Winchester

When Covid-19 started to spread beyond the boarders of China, and into over 150 nations around the world, many different strategies were employed to fight it. The novel virus had never been seen before and there was no textbook or set criteria for battling it. This lead to a verity of different tactics by nations hit hard in the early spread. Some of the measures were unconventional and risky, and were actions taken out of pure desperation in an effort to save lives. The success of these desperate measures taken by nations affected in the early spread was not only going to be important in saving lives in those nations, but they would also provide examples for nations affected later by the spread. For example, South Korea's repurposing an old Malaria drug to treat the virus was very successful. As the virus began to spread around the world they shared their success using hydroxychloroquine with the world, and many doctors began to replicate their treatment. It was very promising, until the President of United States praised the drug as a possible "game changer". He was excoriated by the media and accused of peddling false hope. He was also accused of having a financial stake in the promotion of the drug. How did the media politicize hydroxychloroquine and what is the real story about the effectiveness of this drug in battling Covid-19?
