According2Sam #78

from According2Sam Podcast · host Samuel Winchester

In the 2006 Congressional election Democrats won both houses of Congress. It was the first time one party had won both houses since Republicans did it in 1994. Two years later they increased their control in each house, gaining 21 seats in the House of Representatives, and 8 seats in the Senate. This gave Democrats a 60 seat, filibuster proof, majority in the Senate. Democrats could have passed almost anything they wanted. This is the Congress that President Obama had to work with when he first took his oath of office, after running a campaign on transformative, systemic, hopeful change. Two years later Democrats lost control of the House of Representatives. It was just the beginning. Over the next 6 years Democrats would lose all of the political power that they gained in 2006 and 2008, and then some. Today as President Obama travels the country on his book tour he blames obstruction and the lack of having a Democratic Congress for his failure to achieve the transformative change he promised when he ran in 2008. He says the president in not a king. Who received the most assistance from Obama and Democrats in the two years when they had total legislative power, and was Obama truly committed to the change he promised? Join the conversation and get answers to these questions and more on According2Sam episode #78.
