Welcome to the tweet trends podcast. Hey, what's trending today? Hey, I mean, hey girl and you are tuned in to It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today Today, let's talk about how thankful you are let's get started. Hey there.

Welcome back to tweet trends Let me apologize for holding on to this episode for so long Tuesday night we went and saw Wakanda forever and I just knew for sure that that's what I was gonna be talking about No doubt in my mind That was gonna be the focus because I was so hyped up about saying this movie and good bad ugly whatever I was gonna be talking about it But something happened around the time that we were getting home from the movies We didn't know it at that exact moment, but there had been a mass shooting less than five miles from our home and It was an area Walmart and it was very disturbing seven people lost their lives in this shooting and When you hear about a mass shooting in a place wherever away from where you are it hurts you think about the victims you think about how any type of Situation like this is just senseless violence. There's no reason behind it. You know these people don't know the shooter they are mind in their own business and Then you know the next thing their families are dealing with the grief and hurt and pain of having lost a loved one So it's bad enough when it's a situation and it's far away and you think about how senseless that it is But then when it's in your backyard It puts a different light on it because then you start to think about have I ever been to this place before? Would I have possibly been there at this time?

It gets you thinking about a whole lot of things that If you don't mind it you can go diving down a rabbit hole that that's bottomless, you know, you just keep on diving and then for me These situations have a completely different feeling to it because of the fact that I knew two of the people that were killed in the Mother Emanuel shooting in Charleston, so That level of anxiety that I feel, you know, I go places and my spidey senses are tingling like okay That person looks suspicious. This doesn't look right I've run out of stores before gone to my car and left because I felt like there was something not right about a person and how they were Behaving or you know, I just I can't and so Whereas I thought I was gonna be talking about a movie I've been thinking about this shooting and how we're on the heels of Thanksgiving and people are giving thanks. They should be giving thanks But then it's like there's two different levels of things You have people who are actively thankful and then people who are passively thankful and I don't know that one way or the other That it puts you in a better light But when you think about the fact that tomorrow's not promised Active thankfulness. I feel like is the better choice.

I Realize that I was passively thankful back when I was pregnant with our son We were living in Japan my sister brother niece and one of her friends came to visit us and in that first day I made waffles for breakfast and I felt like a champ. I had my double waffle maker mix up the batter I'm pouring and flipping pouring and flipping you know, you get the first one out for the first person second one out You're already pouring the next two and by the time I got to My waffle Wanting to eat sit down enjoy the company one of the first people came back and wanted more And then another person and another person and it was in that moment that I realized How I am how I was? In seeing how they were at that time And so I couldn't get out of the kitchen fast enough I called my mom and honestly now that I think about it I have no idea what time it was because it was morning for us and it was a 13-hour difference and we were ahead so It was probably late evening then for my for my mom late evening nighttime But I called her and I was crying like a baby and I apologized profusely to her I'm like, oh my gosh, mommy I'm so sorry if I ever made you feel like I didn't appreciate what you do for me. I'm so appreciative I'm so sorry and she I guess that will kind of scare you if you got a call in the middle of the night from your daughter crying and hysterically apologizing for being a terrible daughter and So my mom was kind of like trying to talk me off the legs like it's okay.

It's okay. All right, okay All right, I accept it. Okay. It's gonna be all right.

Are you all right? You know and um Like I said it was in that moment that I realized just how passively I was thankful I appreciated what my mom would do for me But I didn't really come out and say it to her and so at that moment I began to make a change I said, you know what? I'm going to make it known that I appreciated things that people do for me and then you know fast forward Now I'm going to keep a gratitude journal so that I can be mindful on paper I can document those things that I'm grateful for Now you may be wondering like well, what does any of this have to do with anything? Well, it has a lot to do with everything because being thankful actively I feel put you in a better place physically spiritually emotionally When bad things happen For example, I got a paper cut the earlier today.

I had a paper cut Rip my thumb through a an envelope Opening it no one better than doing that. I know I should have used a an envelope opener, but I didn't I used my thumb Got a paper cut and it was after I got that paper cut when I realized how much this thumb means to me How much I use my thumb to do things that now is burning and hurting and getting scratched every single time by other things And that made me then grateful for the times when my thumb when I didn't realize I had a thumb The thumb was there, but thumb wasn't hurting. So therefore it wasn't a thing And it just reminded me okay, you got to be diligent. You got to get back on and start appreciating the things You know you appreciate your legs for being able to get you from point A to point B And then when something happens It's not like all of a sudden now I'm up in arms about the fact that my leg isn't working You know, I've been appreciative.

I've been thankful for the times that it did work Which means I recognized it. I noticed it and I shined a light on it Now that it's not hurting I can still shine the light on it But it's not like all of a sudden now the leg is getting the attention because there's a problem No It was okay And I still thought it not robbery to show appreciation to my leg for helping me to do the things that I do Think about that As we approach Thanksgiving day, don't think of it as a day to be thankful and then that's it Think of it as the day that you recalibrate that you go through and take inventory of how you've been the previous year And then this is the new beginning to start off the next year of your daily Thankfulness your daily gratitude and not just your one day a year situation Where now all of a sudden I'm going to pull out of the sky every single thing in the world that I'm grateful for that I'm thankful for when we know that we will easily skip over a buttload of things because there are some things that just don't They don't sound an alarm. I have a nose on my face. I'm looking at it right now But I don't feel it there and so if I'm not looking at myself in a mirror and I don't feel my nose there Then technically I don't even know that I have a nose, but I'm breathing through it So I should be thankful because I could have a cold and my sinuses be stopped up and I can't utilize my nose I have to breathe through my mouth.

So once again Right here right now today as you go into Thanksgiving day start to actively be thankful not just to your body but to Everyone and everything around you Even stuff as simple as nature be thankful to the birds for singing if you can hear them singing And the squirrels playing in the grass if you can view them doing so You know you seeing seeing the nature feeling the sunlight on your skin be thankful for that There are some people that have skin Situations that they can't do that, but kind of like with the situation I mentioned in the first segment where You it hits different when it's in your own backyard So it's not until something happens to you that now all of a sudden I'm heartbroken I'm hurt when all along you think about in a year 365 days One day I hurt my knee and now I can dwell on that pain for weeks on end When I had the rest of the year all of those other days that I could have been excited about the mobility that I did have So just something to think on Consider starting a gratitude journal Or you know, maybe an audio gratitude journal on your phone where you just talk into the microphone and tell of a few things that you're grateful for That you're thankful for and um, you would be amazed at how much of a mindset shift That will be to you your well-being your health your happiness the whole night Thank you.
