Activism in Africa

Africa is faced with many challenges such as unemployment, poverty, disease, lack of education and corruption – these are a combination of problems caused by social and political inequality. Governments have reiterated their commitment to changing the status quo, but, some may argue, that transformation is happening at a snail’s pace. In some countries we have seen a wave of social and political activism, people rising and demanding that their voices be heard. In Zimbabwe for instance Pastor Evan Mawarire remains on trial for allegedly trying to subvert President Robert Mugabe's government, he continues to challenge Mugabe on the country’s economic crisis. And here at home movements like SaveSA have taken the country by storm protesting against state capture and corruption and Fess Must Fall.
