Acts 1

Jesus's ascension after forty days of resurrection appearances transfers His earthly ministry to the Spirit-empowered apostles who will witness to the ends of the earth. The replacement of Judas with Matthias maintains the symbolic twelve apostles while the disciples gather in prayerful unity awaiting the promised Spirit. The angels' promise that Jesus will return "in the same way" as He departed establishes the hope of His visible second coming.
