Acts 10: A Name that Confronts Us (Acts 4:1-22)
from Element Christian Church of Santa Maria
Element is taking the better part of 2016 to walk through the first 12 chapters of the book of Acts in order to focus us on what Jesus calls the church to be like in the world. In Acts 3:11-26, the Apostle Peter preaches the second sermon recorded in the early church…and he speaks primarily about God’s revealed truth. Peter shows us two things about truth. 1) There is such a thing as final truth and it is found in the Scriptures. 2) The Scriptures are not simply a book, they are all about a person, Jesus.

What this episode covers
Element is heading through the book of Acts in an effort to better understand the early church (and what the church today should be as well). The book of Acts is full of what are known as prescriptive texts, that means it explains what happened. Acts shows us a good pattern to follow to be a church that honors Jesus. The early opposition against the disciples preaching the gospel is shown in Acts mainly from religious people. The religious people were against what was known as the Oral Law, the Oral Law was a way to apply the Scriptures to every day life.
