Acts 13.13-52

Reader: John Hargrave Preacher: Jonathan Smith Paul stands in a synagogue - among people who know the story of Israel - and traces the entire arc of that story to its fulfilment in Jesus: promised, rejected, crucified, raised, vindicated. The response is mixed. Many beg to hear more, but the synagogue rulers contradict and insult. Paul and Barnabas respond directly: since you reject eternal life, we turn to the Gentiles. This is the fulfilment of Isaiah's vision of a light to the nations. The Gentiles rejoice, the disciples are filled with joy, and Paul and Barnabas are driven out of the region.
