Acts 6 CEB (Common English Bible)

from Luke-Acts CEB (Common English Bible) · host Lucius from Cyrene, one of the prophets and teachers at Antioch

The apostles don’t wanna waste their time feeding people. I don’t know. Was that a good idea of them or a bad idea obviously, we have Steven and Philip taking pretty big rolls after this and they were just supposed to feed people. Did anybody tell them that they weren’t supposed to Proclaim the word but it seems like they’re proclaim in the word quite a bit. I’m guessing that they were also helping to feed the widows so I don’t know maybe they could’ve figured it out. It is a interesting question. Did the apostles think they were too good to help feed people And therefore this is an example of the apostles could’ve had a chance of service and didn’t take it. Or did the apostles realize that there was a lot going on and they needed more than just 12 L for this big thing. Maybe it is true that with a bigger organization there needs to be more leadership and that they couldn’t do everything and so in a way that would be a fantastic thing. Maybe somebody else in charge is OK. It’s hard to know since of course we weren’t there but I feel like in a way Luke is presenting what happened but not necessarily telling us the good or the bad of it. We’re left to ask questions and let them linger. Steven, what an amazing guy. One interesting note is the so-called synagogue. Friedman could be related to slaves of Romans, who were freed, and therefore then became Roman citizens. As you might know from the end of this book, Paul makes a big deal a few different times of being a Roman citizen and it’s a big topic throughout the later part of the book when he is on trial about 400 times And so it seems that there were some members from these four regions Sirene from where we get Simon of Sirene from the book of Luke and also Lucius of Sirene, who I wonder if that’s the writer of these books who is actually at Antioch in chapter 13 of the book of acts anyway Lucius and Simon are two people from Sirene there were also members from Alexandria, Selicia and Asia. Well the interesting thing about Celia is that’s where Paul is from this talk to text is spelling Selicia wrong. It’s CILIscia. I actually think I spelled it wrong too sorry about that. I was never good at spelling base, but anyway, the members from Selicia of the synagogue of the Friedman point to the possibility that this could’ve been a group that Paul was in. Of course, we know that Paul was there because he was there at the end of chapter 7, so he is there this reference to members from those four places of synagogues of the Friedman could be pointing to that being a group that Paul was a part of since he was a Roman citizen.
