On this episode of Neon Galactic, I’m joined by author and psychonaut Adam Butler, to talk about his life, his experience with DMT, his book, and how turning inward has helped him reinvent his life. Butler is the author of “Butler’s DMT Field Guide,” a volume that describes his experiences on the drug, how it has helped him, and offers various common recipes for acquiring it. We talk about how DMT and other hallucinogens can have therapeutic and transformative power for percipients, if done right. Butler outlines how his life had collapsed due to alcoholism and other personality defects. Through the use of psychedelics and a deep journey inward, he has learned how to live a more centered, passionate, and empathetic life. We also discuss how the lessons learned with psychedelics mirror many of the same ideas and principles offered up by ancient non-dual spiritual traditions. The issues both he and I faced as part of our journeys into addiction and recovery reflect a broader sickness of society at large. Only by understanding our own shadow personality traits, and taking responsibility for their improvement and eradication, can people learn to live improved lives. Butler also describes how a journey to the Monroe Center helped him compare the Gateway Process used there with his own spiritual journey through the use of DMT. Both mechanisms lead people to the same sorts of realizations about self, world, and relationships.
